| | | | | | | | | Discover the territory by walking along the theme trails of the Mendrisiotto and Lower Ceresio Region
The Mendrisiotto and Lower Ceresio Region hides precious pearls of a naturalistic and cultural kind and not only! So walking along one of the theme trails suggested by our Tourist Board and some of our partners active in the area might be the ideal way to discover some of these special features.
The starting point of two hikes on marked trails are at the Peak of Monte Generoso (1704 m above sea level), from where enchanting panoramas can be enjoyed: the easy and short PLANET TRAIL, which illustrates the planetary system on boards on a scale of 1:10 billion, and the longer, more difficult NATURE TRAIL, which joins the station at the peak with the Bellavista area and has boards pointing out the special naturalistic and geological features of the mountain.
Some of the most special and enticing proposals for hikes in the Muggio Valley have been planned and developed by the Ethnographic Museum, the real museum in the territory, which suggests walks which are unique in the canton: THE PATH OF THE WETLANDS, THE PATH OF THE ICE HOUSES (NEVERE) AND THE ITINERARY OF THE CHARCOAL BURNING PILES. These are occasions not to be missed if the valley is to be enjoyed and its traditions and culture to be discovered!
Finally THE DIDACTIC TRAIL OF MONTE SAN GIORGIO and THE DIDACTIC TRAIL IN THE PARK OF THE BREGGIA GORGE are the chance to discover what the Mendrisiotto of the Oceans was like some hundreds of millions of years ago.
Lastly there are three THEME TRAILS AMONG THE VINEYARDS, which were realised during the centenary year of the Merlot grape and propose themes on 30 boards which are interesting for those who are not really experts; the themes are linked to the local vine growing and wine producing activity. It is interesting to note that the highest density of vineyards and grape production at cantonal level is to be found in this Region.
The opportunities for relaxing with wine, food and culture along the theme trails are plentiful, the panoramas and nature enchanting, in short the reasons for walking along one are numerous … we invite you to try them!
